WhatsApp tests feature to send messages to Telegram and Signal

The European Commission last week published a list of companies that are required to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which comes with the threat of fines for non-compliance from March 2024. Meta is one of the companies that is required to comply.

The law requires communication apps like WhatsApp to be interoperable with third-party messaging apps. Meta has therefore begun testing a third-party chat option allowing WhatsApp users to send messages to users of competing social media platforms like Telegram and Signal.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp’s latest update includes a new screen called Third-Party Chats, but it is not yet available to users.
